Before you come

Usually no fasting. Avoid deodorant, talcum powder, lotion or cream on the breast and underarm area on the day of examination. Inform staff if pregnant or possibly pregnant.

Radiology: general preparation

Arrive 10-15 minutes before your appointment. Bring your doctor's prescription or referral and previous relevant reports and scans. Inform staff about pregnancy or possible pregnancy. Inform staff about allergies, particularly if contrast may be used, and about any previous reactions to contrast media. Carry details of relevant medical conditions and current medications. Remove jewellery, watches and other metallic objects when instructed. Follow the specific fasting, hydration or bladder instructions provided for your examination. Children or patients requiring assistance should be accompanied by an appropriate attendant where required.

Mammography: general preparation

No fasting is generally required. Do not apply deodorant, talcum powder, lotion, cream or perfume to the breasts or underarms on the day of examination. Wear a two-piece outfit if possible for easier access. Inform staff if you are pregnant or possibly pregnant, and about breast implants. Bring previous mammograms and reports if available. Tell the technician about breast pain, a lump, discharge or any other symptoms.
